Located in the Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh, ITARSI is literally at the heart of India—it lies almost in the middle of the country. The name of the town was derived from the industries it was known for—bricks or inth, and rope or rassi. Today, however, these industries have been replaced by plywood. ITARSI is also known for its agricultural produce, flourishing handloom, arts and crafts industry and its railway junction, which is one of the country’s busiest.

ITARSI has been blessed with the bounty of nature in the form of wildlife, greenery and flowing rivers. Treks, wildlife tours and picnics on the dam are popular ways to spend time, preferred both by the locals as well as tourists. Religious places also dot the town, luring devotees from all over the country to its very heart. A visit to ITARSI promises to open your eyes to all things truly and completely Indian.
